I have to admit that Bett and Avery have a heck of a lot more character. The Lindsay Lohan version was a staple when I was growing up, and there was a particular age (maybe 9 – 13ish) where I thought it was the most impossibly cool thing on the planet. I am delighted to see a nod to the classic story. The Parent Trap has been given a timely and brilliant makeover in this story of two girls from opposite sides of America.
Determined not to part, Bett and Avery set off on the summer adventure of a lifetime and discover the true extent of family and friendship. Things don’t go quite so to plan for their Dads. To their surprise, they form the sisterly-bond their dads had hoped for and are all set to live happily-ever-after as a new family. While they go off on a motorcycle tour of China, they have booked Bett and Avery into the same summer camp. Both are usually the centre of their dads’ lives, so when those dads meet at a conference, Bett tracks down Avery’s school email to propose that drastic action should be taken. They want us to get to know each other and become close like sisters (or maybe even twins because we’re the same age?) because it’s possible we might become a “family”. The final dungeon and boss of the game require you to complete it in one go and while it is the one thing that tries to tie the character stories together its not something that I feel most people will finish. I did complete almost all of the side quest as they are a good way to level up the characters but I didn’t complete the game.
My starting character was H’aanit the huntress as I liked the concept of her story best but I don’t feel like she is the best character to start with if you are trying for the most optimum play through. The game play itself is turn based with each character welding different weapons’ and having different weakness which changes how you will play the game. I enjoyed all of the characters stories but I do wish the game had found a way to connect all of the stories as there really isn’t a reason for these characters traveling together. The story of Octopath Traveler follows these eight characters with their own journeys such as revenge, hunting down a specific monster, becoming the best merchant, and so on. Though you can only have four characters in your party at any given time you can switch out characters to play though each characters four chapters. Eventually you will met all of the eight character which all have different jobs that effect each characters play style. You choose one of the eight characters to start the game with as a protagonist and journey through the world. Octopath Traveler is a HD-2D roll playing game from Square Enix originally made for the Nintendo Switch.

Ultimately, while I liked this book it felt to me like I will understand and appreciate it more when we have the full series and I can understand where this book fits in the larger story. I did enjoy the ending with the hints of where the story is going. My favorite aspect with Nona the Ninth is getting the back story of “god”/the emperor and finding out that he really was just a guy who doesn’t deserve his power or position. What I loved most about the other books is Gideon and Harrow and their relationship and interactions which isn’t in this book. I liked the book but also felt that there was a lot of setup without much payoff. I read this book in March and I’m writing this review in June mostly because I find this book hard to talk about and explain. However, Nona’s memories are slowly coming back which will change everything. The planet that they are on is controlled by the Blood of Eden who have surrounded the Last Cohort facility and are waiting for the Emperor to come. We are following Nona, who might be someone else but has no memories of her past, living with Pyrrha, Camilla, and Palamedes and just trying to live her life. Nona the Ninth is the third book in the Locked Tomb series and follows shortly after the events of Harrow the Ninth.
